Top Five New Posts of 2013

It's end of year list time so we thought we would look at the top five new posts of 2013 on the Seduction of Venus of the 23 we posted.  Sadly, we haven't been able to post as much as we would have liked due to a lot of international travel this year to Europe and South America.  Hopefully there will be more seduced Venuses in 2014!

To make the top five the posts have to have been put on the blog in 2013.

The Hawaiian American artist's seventies-style watercolours come in at number one.  It's great to see an art post take the top spot!

Posted November. 2,127 views

It achieved second place despite only having been posted just over a month ago.  This was requested by a couple of people so it's good to see that others appreciated it. Quite explicit for the time and boosted by an attractive couple of models have made this a popular choice.

Posted January.  1,869 views

Another art post doing well, although this has been up since January.  Dodson's drawings were some of the first contemporary erotic art we ever saw.  We will post some more shortly.

Posted September. 1,592 views.

Just a couple of girls kissing but very popular nonetheless.  While putting this post together I found a couple more shots from the pictorial which I have now put in the main post.

Posted April. 1,360 views

A pre-Star Wars SF couples pictorial from Penthouse's July 1976 issue, when people of the future still wore a lot of silver foil.  Surprisingly, the only Penthouse couples pictorial to make the list.

So, our main target will be to beat 23 posts in 2013.  We already have a number in preparation so hope to get January off to a passionate start!

The Serpent by Gadja

Our next Penthouse "love set" comes from November 1976, the month after The Spider and the Fly appeared.  These couples pictorials were becoming more and more common in the magazine in the second half of 1976 with this being the sixth love set to appear between July and November. By comparison there had been just six for the whole of 1975.

One of the six couples pictorials from the previous months, 1876, had also been shot by Gadja.  Triple P can't discover anything about this photographer other than the fact that they were sometimes credited as Zee Gadja (the d and the j got transliterated).  We don't even know if they were a man or a woman!  Gajda certainly shot for the Penthouse owned women's magazine Viva in the mid-seventies.

Anyway, this pictorial features two women having fun with a snake.  Whether the snake is having fun nobody would have bothered to ask in the seventies.  The photographer successfully turns the reptile into a phallic symbol throughout, which isn't that difficult with a snake really.

Lots of suggestive licking ensues, for which you have to give full credit to the ladies.  We aren't given their names in the accompanying text which just witters on about Adam and Eve and how delighted the snake must be to writhe around the lithe forms of the ladies.

Both women are made up in something of an exotic avian fashion which gives the pictorial something of a fantastical flavour.  In the first four pictures of the pictorial we only see them from the bust up, at most.

Here we can see that they are also wearing feathered gloves as well, which adds to the tactile quality of the whole pictorial.

Here the snake, it looks like some sort of python, curls around one of the ladies' bottoms.  This pictorial is perilously close to the "arty" type that Penthouse would feature once in a while but just manages to avoid losing any erotic charge which some of the more pretentious ones did.

These two of one of the women with the snake between her legs deliver the required sexy quotient even if they aren't exactly subtle.

Even less subtle are these two were our reptile slithers over the tawny anus of one of the girls and slides between her perfect cheeks.  As the accompanying text says: "The snake has a special - and enviable- knack for adapting to the ins and outs of its environment.  It fits snugly where no man dares venture, insinuating itself into the slippery cracks of any moist surface it claims as its home.  Being very inquisitive, it is especially fond of exploring secret places."

In the final shot of the pictorial. for the first time the girls seem more interested in each other although the snake insinuates itself between them.  As the text says, the snake "leads a charmed existence, imperiously vanquishing all enemies, ready to submit only to the most fearless and beautiful of birds."

A not entirely successful pictorial perhaps, certainly in comparison to The Spider and the Fly which also featured masked women, but certainly part of the trend for an increasing number of love sets in Penthouse which would see nine altogether the following year.  Before we reach 1977 we have one more boy/girl set for 1976 to come.

Lesbian shunga: Woman using a dildo by Chōkyōsai Eiri (1801)

There is a fabulous exhibition of Japanese erotic art on at the British Museum at the moment.  Given a concerted effort by parts of society in Britain at present to increasingly follow America's conservative views, rather than more liberal continental Europe's, on erotic material it's good to see the British Museum taking this on.

This picture of a woman about to try out a tie-on dildo on her companion is by Chōkyōsai Eiri, who was active for less than a decade around the turn of the eighteenth to nineteenth centiries.  This picture is one of thirteen from his only known printed erotic work Fumi no kiyogaki from around 1801.  He seemed to mainly specialise in portraits of beauties.

The woman with the dildo holds a container of cream and is saying "As we're going to do it like this I'll put lots of cream on it, so really make yourself come."  She says that the cream is needed as the dildo is such a big one.  The other girl has her hand on the dildo and is telling her to stick it in quickly as she wants to come five or six times.  Given its depiction as black the dildo was probably made of ebony.  Wooden dildos were known as mokuzō but buffalo horn and tortoiseshell ones were common as well.

It's interesting to note that these women aren't lesbians in a relationship but are probably ladies in waiting in a samurai's home, so given the harem-like, women only environment they are just having sex to provide sexual relief rather than because they are in a romantic relationship.  These tie on dildos could also be attached to a woman's ankle for solo masturbation.

Hayloft Harvest from Hustler May 1979

We posted a couple of pictures from this pictorial which appeared in the May 1979 issue of Hustler in our latest Pubic Wars blog entry.  Several people have said that they liked these and would like to see more so we have included the whole pictorial together with some outtakes.

The extra shots help tell more of the story and have enabled us to put them in something approaching chronological order.  This first shot wasn't in the magazine but introduces us to our girl in the barn next door. It's her wonderful smile that makes this set so enticing.

The first picture in the actual magazine pictorial was this double spread showing our male protagonist spying the splendid young lady in the hay as she strokes herself inside her sensible white knickers.

The very brief text accompanying the pictorial suggests the man (played by porn star Mike Ranger) is the new hired farmhand and the girl is the farmer's daughter.  Ranger worked in porn films for just over a decade.  He eventually married Penthouse Pet of the Month for April 1980, Loni Sanders.

Our farmhand soon gets to grips with the farmer's daughter and photographer Suze Randall gives us this nice up the skirt shot.  The girl has convincingly changed expression from flirtatious to something more passionate.  The fact that she is looking at the camera makes the viewer into another voyeur in the barn.

The farmer's daughter's knickers are soon pulled off, revealing her pink pussy as the farmhand enjoys a squeezing her bust (understandably).

Again, the girl's expression is what makes this picture.  He seems to be looking at her as if to check that what he is doing is alright and she is making it quite clear that it is!

The farmer's daughter soon engages in her own unveiling and reveals the farmhand's agricultural tool, which she soon takes in hand.

This is probably the most erotic shot in the pictorial; with our farmer's daughter sucking the farmhand's finger while his erection almost touches her cheek as she touches her clitoris.

None of these five shots appeared in the magazine pictorial and it would be some time before the girl would be allowed to be shown actually having any oral contact with the man's cock like this in mainstream men's magazines.

This pictorial has the usual issue of not being shot in a precise sequence, of course, unless the process of removing his jeans has meant that the farmhand has lost some of his interest.  More likely the pictorial was shot in softer and harder (literally)  versions.  The pictures that Hustler eventually used were rather more explicit as regards the depiction of the man's erection than they had shown to date.

This pussy spreading shot was also rather more explicit than Hustler had had in most of it's couples pictorials as well.

Next up we have a trio of aerial shots of our agricultural couple in a soixante-neuf position.  The first and second shot are almost identical except in the second photo the tip of his penis is just visible, which may be another case of two versions being prepared.  The bottom picture is a rather more explicit cunnilungus shot than could have appeared in the magazine at the time.  Her expression and look of utter abandon is wonderful here.

Three passionate copulation shots now, with the girl selling the action with her great expressions again.

The top shot here appeared in the magazine (albeit reversed - we have flipped it as this appears to be the correct way around) and is a crop of the image below.  After months of complaints about "limp dicks" in the magazine by some readers this pictorial was one of the first to address this issue.  The genital contact here is successfully tactile.

Again, the top shot here was flipped in the magazine but was an unusual and unashamed depiction of an erection with no "is it or isn't it?" doubt as to whether the member concerned was being held erect, as had happened before.  Her gaping display and inviting anus contribute to the sexual abandon in the shot.

Our penultimate shot was the final one in the magazine: a two page spread that was the closest to the actual depiction of fucking that Hustler had done so far.  His cock head nuzzles at her pussy just half an inch from penetration.  This shot was popular with the readers: "I couldn't believe that Hayloft Harvest pictorial in May! Fantastic! It's about time! Now that you have got it up and touching let's get it in!" said the excited JW from San Geronimo, California.  It would be a long time before full penetration was shown in men's magazines sold at newsstands, however, and not long after this, as the more conservative eighties arrived, Hustler would back off on the explicitness of its couples pictorials for a time.

This shot didn't appear in the magazine and is the only one of the girl completely naked.  The girl appeared in a number of pictorials from 1979 to 1983 but because she used a lot of pseudonyms it is difficult to identify her.   She appeared in a number of hard core short film loops as well as soft core (Men Only, Genesis, Club, Swank, Game, Penthouse) and hard core magazines.

As Iris on the cover of November 1979's Club

This was the first  of her magazine pictorials that we can find but if you follow our Pubic Wars series on Venus Observations we will see much more of her in the next few episodes: starting with the one covering October to December 1979 (the one after next).  She appeared under the names: Monica Blakey, Jeffi Pauling, Jan, Iris, Priscilla, Sally, Sue and Suzie. The name Misty Knight has also been proposed for her.  If any of our readers know any more about her we'd love to know as she brought a real erotic passion to her work which makes her stand out as a model in this period.

The Spider and the Fly by Earl Miller

Our next chronological Penthouse "love set" (as they called them) was their first, and arguably best, fantasy lesbian pictorial.  There are strong arguments that this classic shoot by Earl Miller is their best two girl set of the seventies.

It appeared in the October 1976 issue of Penthouse which is something of a classic issue itself, and was certainly the most visually explicit issue they had produced to date.  Pet of the Month Suzanne Saxon (on the cover) became the first Penthouse Pet to be photographed with her finger penetrating her vagina and classic British Page 3 model Joni Flynn had a series of bold, pussy caressing poses.  All are overshadowed by Earl Miller's masterpiece however.

We are going to post the pictures in pretty much the order they appeared in the pictorial itself.  Sometimes we try to reorder the pictures into a chronological sequence that tells the story but we often find that the photographers don't stick to a sequential order, particularly where the presence of certain items of clothing is concerned.  This is certainly the case here where our fly is flitting around the dozing spider (or spider woman; the spider itself is a large stuffed model in the centre of the web).  Perhaps she is the spider's pet (or Pet).  Anyway at this point she is only wearing stockings not the spider web outfit she has on later.  Perhaps she dresses for dinner.

Anyway, our poor fly is soon caught up in the spider's web.  Having had a series of girl/girl pictorials depicting women in sylvan landscapes or, more latterly, boudoirs, this huge, fantastical set (designed, like the costumes, by Walter Prosper) is a major departure for the magazine.  We can't contemplate a men's magazine constructing anything like this today.

Here the spider approaches her trapped victim, now dressed in her fetching spider web outfit.

The spider had pulled the fly into the centre of her web and sets about munching on her pussy.  This was only the second explicit rug munching shot in the magazine, following the one in Mirror Image in December 1975.  Incidentally, the text explains the fly's lack of wings: the spider spun some more web around them and snapped them off.  Good to know they had people on the staff with such an eye for detail.

This is a nice kissing shot.  In the last few girl/girl pictorials preceding this one, Penthouse had actually pictured the models kissing (still unusual even in today's lesbian pictorials) unlike most of their rival publications which however much they got the girls to display their bodies they rarely got them to indulge in this level of intimacy.

Such an assertive anal display as the one by the fly in this picture was still very unusual in Penthouse.  One of the girls in 1876 from the July issue had flashed her anus but that was a solo picture.  The level of explicitness in "love sets" was always lagging behind what was being shown in solo pictorials for some reason.

In this shot the spider not only cups the fly's pussy but also has her fingertip on her anus: another first for Penthouse.  This pictorial was considered so racy in Britain that it became the first love set that the UK edition didn't publish at all and no doubt this shot had a lot to do with that.

Again, this faux cunnilingus shot was definitely at the bolder end of the spectrum as to what Penthouse had shown in their lesbian pictorials.

This  bottom kissing one was also unprecedented with the spider getting her face right between the fly's cheeks.  This is Penthouse's first example of implied analingus.

Some nice bust play follows although the fly has now lost her compound eyes!

Oh they're back again!  Not only do we get a nice nipple lick from the spider but she has her hand touching the fly's groin, which was still very rare for these types of pictorials.

A nice caressing shot with some tactile thigh straddling going on.

Next we have Penthouse's first ever "scissors" tribadism shot as the spider and the fly get their groins together.

The final shot of the pictorial is this fine close up of an elegant, pussy-caressing hand and some lovely labia.   At the time this fantastical production was almost unique (Penthouse had published a science fiction themed couples pictorial, 2076 (another Earl Miller shoot), the previous month) but gradually over the years Penthouse would have more and more fantasy and science fiction love sets and with the success of Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind the following year this approach would grow.

Fortunately, there are a lot of outtakes from this pictorial so now we can go back to the beginning of the story with some extra and alternative photographs.  We start with the fly taunting the spider, getting trapped in the web and the approach of the spider.

Next we have some shots which weren't reflected in the pictorial as it appeared in the magazine; with the spider and the fly being a bit too friendly looking towards each other.  They are still dressed in their enticing little costumes, though.

Next we have a sequence which explains the fact that the fly is tied up at the wrists in one of the pictures in the magazine pictorial, as the spider traps and then contemplates her victim.

The spider starts to molest her bound prey, understandably.

In the magazine pictorial there was a nice shot of the two girls kissing and here we have more of them caressing taken from that point in the shoot.  The fly doesn't appear to be too much of  a victim here: in fact she seems to be making all the running!

These lovely bust nuzzling shots don't have an equivalent in the main pictorial.

Next we get a sequence showcasing the fly's delectably displayed rear end as she flashes that enticing arsehole.

This sequence din't have an equivalent picture published in the Penthouse pictorial either as the fly goes down on the spider as she grabs her web in ecstasy.

In the magazine pictorial the next couple of shots have a kneeling spider kissing a standing fly so here are a couple of alternative views.

There was a close up version of this pose in the magazine.  This gives us a good view of the amazing set.

Here the spider indulges in some intimate groin kissing too, again, not shown in the original.

Another version of the nipple licking one with a slightly more assertively placed hand.

In this sequence the girls get down into their scissors position.

There is also some added foot licking by the spider.

Finally, more tribadism but this time the spider has her stockings back on again.

This is a wonderful pictorial but what was even better about it was that they made a film of it at the same time.  This reappeared in a movie called Naughty Network (1981) where they took a series of previously filmed short, unconnected erotic films and built a framework story around them about a TV station trying to come up with programmes for their new porn network.  In one of the framing scenes a character actually holds up the issue of Penthouse from which the pictorial came.

We then go into the film and discover that the two girls are called Tina Jordan and Lauren Hart, although which one is which is never made clear.  Agent Triple P hasn't been able to find out anything else about these two young ladies sadly.

The story is rather different from the pictorial in the magazine in that there is no initial scene of the fly fluttering over the sleeping spider; we go straight into her being trapped in the web.  The spider approaches up the web just as in the pictorials and then we cut to the fly waking up.

The fly discovers she has been tied up, screams and tries to get free but cannot. The spider stands over her and caresses her own groin and bust.  In the magazine pictorial there aren't really any close ups of the individual girls but in the film there are quite a few.

The fly asks what the spider wants but she doesn't answer; just jumps astride her, slaps her and pushes her down.  Then of course she kisses her.  The fly asks why the spider doesn't talk and realises that she is mute.  The spider strokes the fly's body and uncovers her breasts.

The spider pushes the front of the fly's knickers up and starts to lick her pussy (or, at least, her pubic hair).

The girls kiss and undress each other.  The fly tells the spider that she didn't need to trap her if all she was looking for was love.

The fly pushes the spider onto her knees and starts to kiss her bottom.

It is at this point that the film becomes more explicit than either the magazine pictorial or the outtakes as the fly licks the spiders anus and then penetrates her vagina with her finger.  There is a a reasonable length sequence of over a minute of the fly licking and finger fucking the spider.

There are no still photographs of this position so it must have been something that was just done for the film, which we assume was directed by Earl Miller as well.

The scene shifts and the spider is now on her back with the fly parting her thighs before licking her very wet looking pussy.  There is more finger penetration here too.

The fly moves straight up from licking the spider's pussy to kissing her; no doubt giving her a musky taste of her own juices at the same time.

Next we have the scissors tribadism sequence with a close up of grinding pussies and some toe sucking by the fly.

The final sequence has the spider licking the fly's pussy although the sequence is less explicit than the earlier cunnilingus sequences, as the fly's pussy is never shown.  She does however buck her hips and writhe around most athletically, to the extent that the spider has to hold her down.

One of the Penthouse photographers when asked if the models in the couples sessions went further tin the sessions than the photographs in the magazine showed, denied it and said that they just shot pictures to the then acceptable print standard.  The film of this set does go much further than the pictorial, however, and is a rare, if not unique, filmed record of a seventies Penthouse love set.

A classic!
